She thought he was dead. She loved him dearly for only a few days, but he left a hole in her heart.
It wasn't until nearly three weeks later when Max returned, Nux in tow. He was badly injured, barely hanging on when Max arrived on the back of a bike.
LIFT THEM UP! The warboys cried. Capable didn't know what was going on, holding onto The Dag's hands as she got bigger and bigger with Joe's baby. She just saw another warboy found in the wastes. The other boys put him on a stretcher and march him down the hall-- she catches his eye. That's no warboy.
And he had loved Capable, too. For the few days' journey back, he had stayed close to her. Held her as they slept. Talked with her about anything and everything.
His leg was shattered, he knew that. His chest ached whenever he breathed too deeply, but at least he was alive. He could die historic another day, now he had something to live for.
He catches sight of red hair as he's carted off to be looked at, and he reaches a hand out for her as they pass, but can't quite reach her.
His hand reaching out is what cemented it. That was Nux. He survived somehow. Capable quickly releases The Dag's hands, leaving the other girl bewildered as she rushes to the grab that pale white hand.
